DIY Garden Tool Caddy

  Start with a carpenter’s nail belt (has one big pocket): Measure width of each tool, then add an inch for extra space. Use pen to mark widths on belt. Stitch along marks, creating pockets. Tie belt around a bucket (use to hold large items or debris).

Keep the Soil in Potted Plants Wet for a Longer Period of Time

  Open up a clean baby diaper and saturate with water. Place at the bottom of a planter. Fill with dirt and place plants or seeds in the soil. The diaper holds onto the moisture and keeps the dirt wet for a longer period of time.

Plant Seeds With a Pencil

  An easy way to get seeds to the depth needed in the soil is to gently push them down with the eraser side of a pencil. Check the seed packet to know how far down the seeds need to be for optimal growth, and then push the seed to that depth.

Determine How Long to Leave Sprinkler on in your Garden

  Set an empty coffee can about 10 feet away from the sprinkler. Turn on tap, and monitor time needed for the sprinkler to deposit enough water to reach 1 1/2 inches on a ruler dipped into the can (equivalent of what your plants need).
